In 1887, a group of responsible people founded in Denver, Colorado the now worldwide organization known as United Way, as they recognized the need to unite the resources available, to address the welfare problems in their community.
This was the beginning of a movement that is now present in 40 countries around the world and 125 years later, United Way advances the common good throughout the world and makes a better life for all members of local communities where it is present.
At the core of our beliefs is that everyone deserves opportunities to have a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. That’s why United Way’s work is focused on the three building blocks for a good life: Education, Income and Health.
Every year, corporate partner companies and their employees, donors and volunteers, contribute with almost $5 billion each year to create opportunities for a better life for all, making United Way the largest private nonprofit in the world.
