Ms. Delia, a lady with a life full of experiences, found her refuge in art and in the community of the day center for elderly, supported by United Way. In fragile health conditions, but with an young spirit, she continues to pursue her passions and inspire those around her.

Ms. Delia is 77 years old. After 25 years of work, she retired due to illness. She was married but got divorced after only three years. The failure of the marriage caused her great disappointment and led her to stop trying any other serious relationship. Currently, she lives in a 2-room apartment in Rahova neighborhood, and her only roommate is a puppy, who seems to understand her.

However, Ms. Delia does not feel the lack of socialization because she comes, as often as she can, to the day center dedicated to the elderly. A bohemian, sensitive person, Ms. Delia inhales and exhales art with her every breath. This aspect made her sign up for all the activities in the day center, which involve at least a little form of art: the Creation Class, the Crafty Hands Class and the Literary Class. Mrs. Delia makes interior decorations, knits women’s clothes, creates jewelry and writes poetry. This year she decided to develop on other levels and signed up for the English Language Class. In recent years, Ms. Delia’s health has worsened (diabetes, chronic heart problems) and she spends a good part of her pension on treatments and medications.

However, Ms. Delia does not give up and is still present at the center’s activities. “Since coming to the day care center, I have greatly expanded my sphere of activities. I do bricolage, tailoring, painting, recycling. I tried all of these in turn, and recently I fell in love with making macrame style necklaces, the way I tried other creations, such as clothing or decorative panels, masks. I wouldn’t understand life without these activities, just like I wouldn’t understand it without pets and the friendships I made at the center”, Ms. Delia told us at the end of the year.
