When he was little, Dumitru and his brothers came from a family that needed help in order to give them a normal childhood. Their parents, overwhelmed by their situation, came to the educational center supported by United Way. Here, Dumitru, like his other brothers, benefited from complex support: homework help, warm meals, recreational activities, but above all, a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

For several years, Dumitru came almost every day to the center supported by United Way. During this time, he made friends and developed both educationally and personally. He felt that interacting in this environment helped him overcome communication or social and financial barriers. He received everything the center had to offer: afterschool with warm meals, teachers and volunteers who helped shape his personality. “All this created the basis on which I developed, helping me evolve every day, in any condition”.

When he was in the ninth grade, he also became a volunteer and helped the younger children with their homework. Today, at 29 years old, he is a Senior Engineer in Energetics and coordinates a design team. Because he in turn wanted to give a chance to those at the beginning of the road, he formed the design team from young people who are still in college or who have just finished college. “I like to know that I live to give, just as I was given a chance, so I like to pass it on.” Dumitru and his wife redirect 3.5% of their tax to support organizations focused on education.
